Sharing Passwords
Safe gives you two ways to share passwords — a one-time encrypted transfer of a single card, and a shared database for ongoing access with someone you trust.
Send One Card
Open the card, tap the three-dot menu (⋮) → Share, and pick one of two options:
- Share as encrypted link — the card travels as an encrypted link and the code to open it is sent separately, so nothing useful leaks if one message is intercepted. Works even if the recipient doesn't have Safe yet. Full guide: Safe Share — send a card securely
- Share as plain text — sends the card's contents through your device's standard share sheet, unencrypted.
Plain text is readable by whoever receives it and by the messenger carrying it. Prefer the encrypted link whenever the card holds a real password.
Share a Full Database
For ongoing shared access — household accounts, shared subscriptions, a small team — you can create a dedicated shared database that multiple people sync.
How it works:
- Create an extra database in Safe — go to Settings → Databases → Add Database.
- Set it up with cloud sync using a separate cloud account created specifically for sharing (e.g. a shared Google Workspace account).
- Add the passwords you want to share to this database.
- Give the other person the cloud account credentials, the database name, and its master password.
- They open Safe, go to Settings → Databases → Add Database, and connect to the same database.
Everyone now sees the same database and changes sync automatically across all devices.
Each person has full access. Everyone can add, edit, and delete cards. There is no read-only mode or per-user permissions — keep this in mind when deciding who to share with.
