I Lost My Phone

Your passwords are safe. Without the master password, no one can access your data — it's encrypted with AES-256, and that's true even if someone has the device or the database file.

Protect your cloud account

Revoke access for the lost device from your cloud settings as soon as possible. This prevents the phone from syncing any further changes to your cloud copy.

Lock or wipe the phone remotely

Use your phone manufacturer's tools to lock or erase the device remotely:

Getting your passwords back

If you had cloud sync set up, your data is fully recoverable. Install Safe on your new device, connect to an existing cloud database, choose the same cloud account, and enter your master password.

If you didn't have cloud sync, the data cannot be recovered — it was stored only on the lost device. You can start a new database on a new device and rebuild your passwords gradually: import from your browser, or use "forgot password" flows on your accounts.

Android: re-enable special permissions after switching phones

Important: Some Android permissions don't survive a device migration — Samsung Smart Switch, a Google Drive backup restore, "clear data", or a plain reinstall all wipe them. The app comes back, your passwords come back, but the permissions under Special access do not.

After Safe is set up on the new phone, go to Settings → Apps → Safe → Permissions (and Special access / Advanced) and check all three:

Note: The Appear on top one is the sneaky one. Autofill still works for sites with a single saved account, so there's no error and nothing looks broken. You only notice it's off when a site has several accounts (work + personal email, family logins, multiple profiles) and Safe silently fills the wrong one instead of asking. If autofill starts picking the wrong account after a phone switch, this is almost always the reason.
